Your home is your castle, and your castle is where you go to unwind and escape from the everyday madness. Many people spend their free days watching TV or binging on YouTube to relax, and others love to cook, clean, sleep or play some good music. Now all there is no standard method to making good use of free time, so there is no right or wrong way to do it, but if you have a backyard where you live, there are some interesting activities to help convert the yard into a sanctuary.

Kitchen gardens and flower gardens have been a staple sight for hundreds of years; some homeowners will go the extra mile and set up the flowers in front of the house and a kitchen garden in the back for some free veggies. Getting a landscaper to help is not always necessary as most of the work involved can be learned online and purchase the materials. For the people who already have a garden in their yard, thinking of improving the serenity they enjoy at home in whatever small space left can be a tricky pursuit for creativity. Gazebo, hot tub, hammock, a swinging bench are some ideas that might come to mind for the next garden project. Some of these ideas lean on the expensive side, while others are simple do-it-yourself tasks that need good planning and execution. Some other ideas that can give the desired ambiance to any garden are like installing a pond to the garden space, and if it is not too much of a hassle, a fish pond can give that extra touch that will have any owner spending hours just watching them swim. The goal is to make spending time at home a relaxing and therapeutic occasion that the owner looks forward to anytime they are free.

When it comes to garden bridges, it only makes sense to install one if there is a pond already set up for the bridge to go over or a small stream running through the compound to build across. It does not need to be a long bridge that requires engineers and building permits with maps and blueprints. Usually, some good research and observation with a clear vision of how the finished project will look and feel are enough to get started. If it is a bridge that will be the next project, some factors must be planned before breaking ground. For example, think about how long the bridge will be; this depends on how much space is available or how much can be made available. The purpose of the bridge is important to consider as well. Will it cross a pond or a stream? Keep in mind that the structure does not need an obstacle to be present; sometimes, the bridge can be laid on bare rocks and boulders or just laid on flat ground with a visually attractive design or built on a damp piece of ground avoiding getting mud in the house. Think about what is already on the compound, will the bridge contrast or blend in with the flowers and vegetation already present? Sometimes the garden layout can change to complement the bridge. Also, keep in mind what material to use for the structure in terms of weather changes throughout the year and the effects of climate on the materials used.

When the time comes to break ground, make sure to take measurements of the ground with some chalk to visualize where the bridge will be set up to ensure integrity. Make a list of materials needed based on the measurements taken and chalk outline; this helps avoid running out of material mid-task and maintaining the budget. When ready to start, dig holes on the opposite ends to hold the posts used to set the deck upon and fill it with some gravel about a quarter deep, mix some concrete, then place the posts vertically and fill to hole with the concrete. While the concrete is curing, the deck pieces are installed together with the material of choice. If it is metal, then some welding is in order; if wood galvanized nails and commercial glue will do just fine.

When the concrete is cured, set up the beams across the span's length with the broad side facing the support post, and the narrow sides should be facing up and down.

Secure the beams and center support to the post using nails or a drill. The deck boards are then nailed or drilled to the support beams with about one inch between them, and this is after they have been cut to the desired size. The handrails follow next, and they are also fastened to the support posts using nails and glue.

The garden bridge should not be too complex; instead, it should follow the natural feature of the surroundings while giving off an aesthetic appeal.
